Across Georgia’s independent-school community, the Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA) has long been a source of support, advocacy, and professional growth for educators and school leaders. With more than 160 independent K–12 schools represented statewide, GISA plays a central role in strengthening academic excellence, athletic opportunity, and leadership development. Guiding that mission is Dr. Jeff Jackson, whose steady leadership has helped schools navigate rapid changes in education while preserving the values that make independent learning environments unique. Dr. Jackson brings more than four decades of experience in education to the role of President, including 21 years as Head of School at Augusta Preparatory Day School and previous leadership roles at other independent institutions. His background spans curriculum development, accreditation, school finance, community engagement, and statewide collaboration — giving him a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Georgia’s independent-school sector. That depth of insight has proved essential in recent years as schools manage enrollment shifts, teacher-retention pressures, facility expansions, and heightened expectations from families. Under Jackson’s leadership, GISA has sharpened its focus on professional development and leadership training — two areas schools rely on heavily. Through its annual conferences, workshops, and certification programs, the association equips educators and administrators with forward-thinking strategies for classroom innovation, student-well-being, diversity initiatives, and instructional excellence. The GISA Teachers of the Year celebration, leadership forums, and ongoing accreditation support give schools statewide a roadmap for continuous improvement and greater collaboration. Recent legislative changes in Georgia have also placed GISA at the forefront of advocacy. In 2024 the state expanded educational-choice initiatives, including the Georgia Promise Scholarship Act, which provides public funding for certain students to attend private schools.
