    The City of Freeport has received $31 million in funding from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Emerging Contaminants program. This combination of grants and forgivable loans will support the construction of Well #12 and continue ongoing efforts to improve water quality across the city. Portions of the funding were secured in early 2025 through work by members of the engineering firm Fehr Graham, with the remaining $14 million awarded in December 2025.Well #12 is planned for construction near the south entrance of Krape Park on Forest Road.
