Pain Is a Signal—Don’t Tune It Out
Pain isn’t just an annoyance—it’s a message. Whether it’s a dull ache, sharp sting, or lingering stiffness, pain is how your body lets you know something isn’t right. And ignoring it? That’s a risky move.
“Too many people wait until pain is unbearable before they seek help,” says Colm Murphy, chiropractor and owner of Brighton Chiropractic. “By then, what could’ve been a simple fix might take months to heal.”
Persistent pain—especially if it lasts longer than a few days or keeps coming back—isn’t something to shrug off. It can point to deeper issues: joint dysfunction, muscular imbalances, inflammation, nerve irritation, or even problems in unrelated systems, like digestion or circulation.
Murphy stresses that if you notice pain interrupting your daily life—keeping you from sleeping, working, or doing things you enjoy—it’s time to take it seriously. That doesn’t mean panic, but it does mean acting.
Start with a consultation. A chiropractor, physical therapist, or medical professional can assess the issue and help determine whether it’s mechanical, inflammatory, or something more complex. The sooner you identify the root cause, the more effective your treatment options will be.
The good news? Many pain issues are treatable—and even preventable—with early intervention. Whether it’s posture correction, stretching, physical therapy, or chiropractic adjustment, the goal is to restore balance and keep you moving without discomfort.
“Pain is information, not punishment,” Murphy says. “Your body’s trying to help you avoid further damage—it’s not just complaining.”
So if that ache in your lower back won’t quit, or your shoulder feels off day after day, don’t just power through. Listen. Ask questions. Take action.
Ignoring pain may feel tough, but paying attention is what actually keeps you strong.
